Subaru Rally Team USA announced today that the team has entered a technical partnership with outdoor apparel company KÜHL, based in Salt Lake City, UT. KÜHL will become the official clothing partner of Subaru Rally Team USA which has teams competing in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship (GRC) and the American Rally Association Championship (ARA). KÜHL is an innovator in designing top-selling pants, shirts, and outerwear.
“We are really excited about this partnership. What attracted us to KÜHL was how they operated a lot like our motorsports team—they’re extremely focused on making great products by way of excellent construction and design,” said Rob Weir, motorsports marketing manager for Subaru of America. “Our teams and fans are out in the elements and require highly technical clothing to keep comfortable and perform at their highest potential, we trust KÜHL to help us greatly on that front. Additionally, the Subaru brand is outdoor-lifestyle focused just like KÜHL, so we have a really great match.”
KÜHL aims to demonstrate how original ideas lead to creating the best outdoor lifestyle clothing. Eighty percent of KÜHL fabrics are proprietary – they create many of their own fabrics. The company considers themselves artisans of clothing, and that goes into every fabric they use. KÜHL has pattern and sample making teams in-house and are focused on all components and every element of the design and construction of a great product.
Subaru Rally Team USA official team gear produced by KÜHL is expected to be available to purchase later this year after the team works with KÜHL to design, create and test a range of new team clothing.
Subaru Rally Team USA’s rallycross efforts are led by GRC star Patrik Sandell and former Subaru World Rally Team driver Chris Atkinson. The two drivers will compete in the 2017 Red Bull GRC at the wheel of their Vermont SportsCar-prepared 2017 Subaru WRX STI GRC Supercars. Meanwhile, the stage-rally side of the team will again be spearheaded by defending eight-time Rally America champion David Higgins and former four-time Rally America Champion Travis Pastrana. Higgins and Pastrana will compete in the newly formed 2017 American Rally Association (ARA) National Championship behind the wheel of 2017 WRX STI rally cars.
Upcoming events include Higgins and Pastrana at the Olympus Rally (Olympia, Washington) May 13-14 and Sandell and Atkinson will compete at GRC Louisville, May 20-21. GRC Louisville will air LIVE on NBC, Sunday May 21st at 1:00pm EST.
